[SOLD OUT] BLIND WINE TASTING

[SOLD OUT] BLIND WINE TASTING

Who's ready to taste some wine? Or, more specifically, who's ready to blind-taste some wines?  Ok, we won't actually be using blindfolds, but we'll use our senses to try and identify the varietal, perhaps country, and maybe even location within the country. The goal isn't to intimidate but to create a fun experience for all with a bit of learning and a lot of wine exploration!

This event might not be the Judgement of Paris, but we'll lead you through a systematic approach to tasting, on a no-stress level. We're excited to bring this second edition of blind tasting to Mt. Rose Wine Co. Because there are so many wines out there, we will be narrowing the tasting to two whites and two red wines. We'll also provide a list of varietals that could be included in the tasting. Even Master Sommelier exams have a list of wines that can and cannot be a part of their blind tests. Of course, many wines can 'trick' even seasoned Sommeliers. That's part of the fun!

Please join us as we delve into four wines. After we swirl, sniff, sip, and then make our best educated guesses, we'll engage in fun, light-hearted discussions of our assessments, which is sure to elicit further conversation and surprise when the wines are revealed.

$45 per person

[SOLD OUT] AN EVENING OF PARADIGM

[SOLD OUT] AN EVENING OF PARADIGM

Our final tasting of 2024 will be one for the books and one you won't want to miss.

We will be welcoming Paradigm Winery to Reno on Tuesday, December 10th. Doug and Lacie have personally collected their wines for years, and we are thrilled to host one of our favorite producers in Napa Valley. Don't miss this intimate tasting and opportunity to purchase some gorgeous wines just in time for the holidays or gift-giving. These wines aren't regularly available in the market.

Paradigm Winery is owned and managed by Ren and Marilyn Harris, two winegrowers with profound roots in Napa Valley. Marilyn's grandparents immigrated from Italy to Napa Valley in 1890, while Ren's family came to California in 1769. Marilyn and Ren moved to Napa Valley in the 1960's and settled into their home just east of where Paradigm sits today.

Ren and Marilyn hired a young and talented winemaker, Heidi Barrett, who has been with Paradigm since the beginning. They all felt a shared passion for making great wine and a determination to preserve the small, family-owned style of winery that Napa Valley was built on. With an incredibly loyal team, Paradigm Winery maintains a hands-on approach to all winemaking and vineyard operations; nothing is outsourced. Every bottle you uncork was grown, crushed, fermented, barrel-aged, bottled, and stored on-site. Ren and Marilyn have tirelessly advocated for the Oakville appellation, eco-friendly farming, and environmental stewardship.

Join us for an intimate evening with Tom Meadowcroft, the visionary behind Meadowcroft Wines. Meadowcroft, a name that evokes the nurturing of fertile fields and cultivated land, reflects Tom's dedication to the art of winemaking. Tom's winemaking journey is driven by a passion for creativity and a deep appreciation for the rich cultural heritage that informs his craft. From the Cabernet Sauvignon grown on their esteemed Mount Veeder estate in Napa to Bordeaux grapes carefully sourced from sustainable vineyards in Dry Creek, Carneros, and Alexander Valley, Tom brings a global perspective to his winemaking. His goal is to create wines with a distinct Sonoma character infused with the complexity of traditionally European varietals.

Following that harvest, he studied at UC Davis and Napa College, graduating with a degree in Viticulture and Enology. After earning his degrees, he worked in Napa and Washington State as a vineyard Manager focusing on sustainable farming and environmental advocacy. UNCORKING THE LOIRE

Join us on Thursday, September 19th, when we welcome one of our favorite importers to Reno! We have been working with them since we owned our former wine bar outside Chicago and currently feature several of their producers at Mt. Rose Wine Co.

We will feature four wines from the Loire Valley during this interactive tasting. It's time to uncork the land of castles!

Steve of Michael Corso Selections and his team travel regularly and extensively in France, seeking those producers whose wines offer a classical profile and express the unique qualities of their specific terroirs. They work predominantly with small vignerons who are keenly aware of the importance of the land they pass on to their children and grandchildren. Hence, many of the wines they import are produced sustainably, many organically and all are made with a respect for quality.

BURGESS CELLARS TASTING

BURGESS CELLARS TASTING

Join Burgess Cellars Hospitality Manager Marcos Coronado for an exclusive, private tasting with a renowned estate in Napa.

Burgess is among Napa Valley’s greatest historical estates. Since its genesis in 1972, the winery has embraced the role and importance of nature in crafting elegant wines from its pedigreed vineyards. From the slopes of the historical Sorenson Vineyard, first cultivated in the 1800s, to the St. Andrews Estate, where sheep, chickens, and pollinator gardens play a key role, their vineyards are regeneratively farmed to honor their past and protect the future.

Tom Burgess established Burgess Cellars in 1972, but these Howell Mountain slopes were first planted in the 1870s by Italian-speaking immigrants from the Swiss canton of Ticino. The Poncetta & Rossini families, in the way of their Alpine homeland, cultivated vines on the rugged mountainside at extreme elevations. With the same ambition and imagination, Lee Stewart planted Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah grapes on Howell Mountain’s steep hillsides, naming his winery Souverain, meaning “sovereign.” Subsequent Napa Valley greats also saw the high promise of the land. Before starting the historic Stag’s Leap and Grgich wineries, Warren Winiarski and Mike Grgich each learned his trade at the Estate known today as Burgess.

WINE 101: WHAT IS TERROIR

WINE 101: WHAT IS TERROIR

Terroir is a term you may have heard used by someone drinking wine. The scenario could have occurred as follows: A person takes a sip of wine and then exclaims, "This wine exhibits beautiful terroir." You might be thinking to yourself, what in the world do they mean by that?! Can you really taste the "minerality" in wine, or is it something else altogether?

During this complimentary Wine 101 class, we'll discuss this sometimes overused and often confusing French term that, in simplicity, means "a sense of place." Although this might be a little nerdy, when you think about winemaking, you can't start the conversation until there's an understanding of place, influences, and how to manage (or mitigate) the elements that occur or are available in the vineyard. We hope you'll join us in what should be a lively educational conversation.

(SOLD OUT) AN EVENING WITH WÄLDELE

The Wäldele Family has grown grapevines since 1640 in the foothills of the Black Forest Region in Baden, Germany. 1640! Hannes Wäldele, born and raised in Germany’s Black Forest region, learned to farm and make wine alongside his family. He now owns and operates Wäldele Family Wines in Sonoma, California. Join us on Friday, April 5th, for An Evening with Wäldele, tasting four wines, guided by Hannes.

Generations of Wäldele relatives tilled the land of Southwest Germany with no machinery, trusting only their family oxen and hiking up hills with bins of grapes on their backs. These stories inspire the Wäldele team in Sonoma today and provide perspective on how far winemaking has evolved into modern-day practices. They handcraft wine in the Sonoma Valley and believe that staying true to the grape’s natural being is essential to making good wine. They wholeheartedly support and pride themselves on their long history of traditional winemaking and commitment to reducing their carbon footprint with organic and sustainable practices.

BLIND WINE TASTING (SOLD OUT)

At Mt. Rose Wine Co., we're all about exploring new varietals, regions, vintages, and producers. How would you like to do the same with a small caveat? Blind wine tasting! This event might not be the Judgement of Paris, but we'll lead you through a systematic approach to tasting using only your key senses to try and determine the selected wines.

We're excited to kick off our first blind tasting so that you may discover what you like (and perhaps don't like) and gravitate towards in wine. Because there are so many wines out there, we will be narrowing the tasting to four red wines, and we'll provide a list of varietals that are possibilities for inclusion in the tasting. Even Master Sommelier exams have a list of wines that can and cannot be tested on. Of course, many wines can 'trick' even seasoned Sommeliers. That's part of the fun!

Please join us as we delve into four wines. We will walk you through the systematic steps of blind tasting and then dive in. We'll all see, swirl, sniff, and sip, then take our notes and make our best educated guesses while engaging in fun, light-hearted discussions of our assessments. We'll then reveal the wines—sure to elicit further conversation and surprise.

AN EVENING WITH SAINTSBURY winery

Napa is coming to Reno! Join us for Sainsbury's debut in the state of Nevada. For those unfamiliar with Saintsbury, get ready for an incredible tasting and experience as we transport you to the Carneros region of Napa Valley. If you are familiar with Saintsbury, you know the astonishing tasting ahead of you!

Saintsbury was founded in 1981 by David Graves and Richard Ward. David and Richard's family still run Saintsbury as a small, independent winery. One of the original wineries in the region and established before the creation of the Carneros AVA, Saintsbury combines creativity and passion with traditional Burgundian winemaking practices to produce site-specific wines with balanced fruit, classic structure, and aging potential. They are champions of Pinot Noir & Chardonnay.

Enjoy a seated tasting of four single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines that introduce you to their select vineyards in Carneros, Anderson Valley, and Sonoma Coast. Lasting an hour, Jacob Harris of Saintsbury will walk you through a tasting of their current releases, detailing the winemaking practices, different terroirs, and story behind iconic vineyards.

$65 per person, including tax.
